Surround Yourself with the Right People

Have you ever read a quote and thought, “Wow, I really needed to hear that?” Well, I found one this morning that was so perfect, that I had to pass it on to you.

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.”George Sheehan

It is all about being your own person, being guided by your own desires and taking the actions needed to achieve what you have set out to accomplish. Yes, you need other people to support you to get you to the point of success, but you need to make sure that you have surrounded yourself by the right people. As a great leader it is assumed that you have it all sorted and that you only interact with the people who are right for you but this is a misconception. Leaders also need support and guidance.

The right people will be the ones who understand and support your outcomes as a leader, they encourage you and hold you up when things are not going as well. They give you the motivation when you’re thinking of giving up and they are also the ones who tell you when to stop and change direction.

This is the complete opposite to the people who you may have in your life that put you down, discourage you from moving outside of your comfort zone to try something new.

These are the ones who want you to live your life based on their desires and they stop you from being the person you want to be and are meant to be!

Your job is to be a great leader in your own life not just in your organisation and filter out the people who bring you down and yes you can do this in a compassionate way. All you need to do is get closer and spend more time with the people who give you encouragement and support your success as a leader. Whilst at the same time start to limit the interactions you have with the people who give you negativity and stop you from becoming the person you are becoming - a great leader.

We all grow into different people with age, our needs, desires, and aspirations change, some people come right along with us on our development journey but there are others who just stay the same. Your job is to look after yourself and allow yourself to grow without the burden of feeling guilty and leaving people behind.

So, allow yourself to be completely guilt-free, move out of your comfort zone and do what you need to do, take the actions that you need to take (however uncomfortable they may seem), and become the person you are meant to be - a great leader!
