Pandemic, Life and Suffering

The last two years have had a toll on all of us whether we have realised it or not. For some people, pandemic symptoms have been quite overt but for others, these have been hidden, so much so that even those suffering have not realised. In the dictionary, the word suffering is defined as ‘ the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship.’ When we think of suffering, we think of people with these symptoms don’t we? and straight away we say to ourselves ‘that’s not me’.

When we talk about distress that means different things to different people as does pain and hardship. During the pandemic most of us have just adapted to a new way of life be it working remotely, taking extra precautions, etc. It’s only when the world has started to open up again that we’ve realised how much we have changed during these two years.

You may have realised that the work you do is not what you want to be doing for the next 10 years or it could be that you’ve realised that you actually enjoy your own time and don’t need to be in social company. In essence what we have all been forced to do is, you heard the saying ‘the grass is greener on the other side’ well we’ve all had a taste of the other side. Being indoors, no socialising, restrictions, illness, and death. This has also given us time to actually step away from the rat race to think and reflect on the way we have been living our life.

You may have come up with a list of things you want to do, places you want to visit, people you want to meet once the world opens up again. I know I did. Yet when the world is beginning to open up again have you found that you’re falling back into your old world and your pre-pandemic way of living? It’s so easily done, we have short memories and tend to think that we'll get around to doing the things on your list, sometime in the future.

My question is, when is the right time for you? Life is short and it is definitely worth living to the fullest. Remember your list and start doing the things on your list now; this is your life and your time.
