Can Meditation Help Me?

There’s loads of research evidence on the benefits of meditation with the buzzword on the street being mindfulness, also a form of meditation. Great leaders need to have a clear mind to be able to make great decisions, they need to be calm to be able to understand what is going on in their organisations, they need to be able to listen to what is going on around them so that they can understand what changes need to be made and to motivate their teams.


Meditation is great for stress management, anger management, getting more creative, improving productivity, calmness, clear thinking, relaxation, lower blood pressure, and anxiety relief. I could go on and on being a convert myself but I’ll stop there.


I’ve gone from thinking that meditation is a hippy, cult, or religious practice to meditating twice a day for twenty minutes. I’ve personally benefited so much from my meditation practice that I’m now teaching meditation as part of my coaching programmes. What made this shift for me was working with great leaders who had tried everything to relieve their stress levels but nothing seemed to work until they tried meditation.

But there are two types of stress: short-term stress that gives you the short-term adrenaline rush to perform and long-term stress that prevents you from thinking straight. This leads to irrational thinking, poor decision-making, poor judgment, and poorer health.


Fact: Research has found that when you meditate you go into a ‘restructuring state’ of deep rest that’s opposite to your fight or flight state and physiological indices of stress are lower in meditators in comparison to non-meditators.
